Privacy policy
RideLine runs school-van phone lines, office pages and the RideLine Driver app for schools. A school decides who is in its lists; we keep that information only to run its van rides.
What we keep
- Teachers and stops, entered by the school: names, phone numbers, addresses, and which van stops where and when.
- Calls to the school's phone line: the caller's number, the time and length, the menu choices, and voicemails left for the office.
- Drivers: name and cell phone number (to log in to the driver app with a text-message code).
- Van location: from the van's GPS tracker, or from the driver's phone in the RideLine Driver app.
- Office logins: name and email of each school office person.
Location in the RideLine Driver app
The app uses the phone's location only on a day the driver has a route, and RideLine keeps it only while one of the driver's routes is running (from shortly before its first stop, by the school's setting, until an hour after its last, or until every stop of it is done; a van running late keeps it while it is still driving, up to 3 hours). While the app uses the location, Android shows a notification saying so, also when the screen is off or another app such as Google Maps is open. After the last route of the day the app stops using the location by itself. Positions sent between routes are not kept. The location is used to show the school office where the van is, to tell teachers how far the van is, and to check off stops.
How we use it
Only to run the service for the school: the phone line, the office page, the driver app, calls before the van comes, and the school's driving reports. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
Only the companies that run parts of the service for us: Google Cloud (hosting and backups), our phone companies (Vonage, Twilio), our email service (Resend), map services (OpenStreetMap, the US Census and Google) that turn stop addresses into map points, Stripe (online payment of invoices: card and bank details go straight to Stripe, RideLine never sees them), and Azuga (the GPS trackers some schools have in their vans). Each uses it only to provide that service.
How long we keep it
- Van locations: 30 days.
- Step-by-step call details: 30 days; the call records themselves: one year.
- Messages to drivers: 60 days; the cancellation history: one year.
- Voicemails left for the office: 90 days.
- A teacher removed from the list: her name, phone numbers, home address and notes 90 days after she was removed. A driver removed by the office: name and cell number 90 days after.
- Sign-up requests from the website: one year.
- Teacher, stop and driver lists: until the school changes them, or until the service ends.
When a school stops using RideLine, we export its information for it or delete it within 30 days of its written request.
Your choices
A driver can turn off location for the app in the phone's settings at any time (the office then sees no live position for the van). Teachers, drivers and office staff can ask their school, or us, to see or remove their information.
Deleting your data (RideLine Driver app and RideLine)
To have your information deleted, email info@therideline.com with your name, your school and the phone number you use with RideLine, or ask your school's office. The office can also remove a driver on its office page, which ends that driver's app login at once.
When you ask, we delete your name, phone numbers, addresses and app logins within 30 days. When the office removes you without asking us, your login ends at once, and your name, phone numbers and address are deleted 90 days later. Van locations are deleted after 30 days in any case. Records of calls to a school's phone line (the caller's number, the time and length) are kept up to one year, as listed above, for the school's records and billing.
